Welcome!

Elisabeth-Krankenhaus

With 223 beds, Elisabeth-Krankenhaus Gelsenkirchen-Erle largely provides for the medical needs of the north of Gelsenkirchen. The hospital is a member of the Catholic service partnership KERN Katholische Einrichtungen Ruhrgebiet Nord GmbH. Our hospital complex, some parts of which are over 100 years old, is set in extensive grounds. As a result, it does not have the look of a typical hospital. Inside, however, medicine using state-of-the-art technology is practised in its departments of acute geriatrics and early rehabilitation, psychiatry and psychotherapy.
Our patients take particular pleasure in the beautifully landscaped grounds. The grounds can be used both as a course for therapeutic sports activities and also for the occasional pleasant stroll.

Day in, day out, our employees devote their extensive medical and nursing skills and knowledge to ensuring the well-being of patients in the following clinics and specialist units:

Important information for patients

Your state of health renders a stay in hospital necessary? For admission as an inpatient to the psychiatric or geriatric unit, you require a referral from your GP. Please contact the office of the relevant specialist unit to arrange your admission. In the event of a psychiatric emergency, please contact the municipal fire and rescue services of Gelsenkirchen on the emergency telephone number 112. In an emergency, they will bring you or your relative in to the hospital. During the admission process, your personal details and insurance status will be verified. We will then apply to your health insurance company for confirmation that the cost of your treatment will be covered. We have put together a checklist for you.

Important information for visitors

Visits from family and friends are especially important during a stay in hospital. A visit breaks the monotony of daily hospital routine and, for all patients, anticipation of a visit is something that raises the spirits and also aids their recovery. Please do bear in mind, however, that patients generally share their room with other patients and show consideration. Patients need the opportunity to rest, so please ask your visitors not to come together but separately, at different times of the day. A “quiet time” should be observed between 12.30 and 2.30 pm.
